Meet Jennifer Ruckman (Katie)

Tell us about your invisible friend, or your “friend’s” invisible friend.
Wait, you can’t see him??

Have you traveled overseas? Any interesting stories or experiences?
The first time I traveled overseas was for a semester in London, and my mom joined me at the end of my program and we traveled around Europe. We didn’t always know what we were doing or speak the language – we got locked out of our hostel after seeing a show at the Moulin Rouge, ran home in the rain after missing our bus in Rome, and rolled down a very large hill in Ireland (on purpose)! Some of my favorite moments now are when things went wrong. We had an amazing time and created a lot of unique memories, and it was even more special because it was something I got to share with my mom.

If you could speak to your unborn child, what piece of advice would you give?
Make time for the people you love.

If you met any of the characters on the street, who would you share a pint with and who would make you turn and walk away? And why?
I’d have a pint with Amit; he has so much enthusiasm and excitement about the world, but he’s also an old soul and very wise. I’d walk away from the Frenchman – I don’t think I’d be prepared for his brutal honesty with only one pint!

What’s the biggest challenge for you in this production?
It’s a whirlwind – there is so much going on and in so many layers (reality, dreams, imagination), it’s a fast and intense ride.

What excites you about this story and why should people come see it?
The things these people desire are so fundamentally relatable, but the story is told in such a quirky, theatrical way. It’s hilarious and heartbreaking, and you really never know where it’s going to go or how it’s going to get there. But you’ll enjoy the journey!
