Meet Nicole Schlitt (Stage Manager)Nicole-Schlitt

Why do you think the world has been so fascinated with the legend of Nessie?
People have always had a fascination with mystery. There is a whole genre of novels, television, and movies dedicated to the mystery in stories. Nessie is another story that has that mystical nature that people like to fantasize and daydream about.

What is it like to work on a world premiere musical?
This has been an experience unlike any other! Every rehearsal is different. When you have a book and score that is still changing and evolving, it keeps us constantly creating and forming what the story is as a final product. We are creating what others will use as the basis for other productions in the future, and that’s pretty cool.

What mysteries or legends captivate your imagination?
I’ve always been captivated by the mysteries of space. It’s so deep and vast beyond our wildest imagination and it just goes on for what seems like eternity. The different bodies of light are also breathtaking, all those nebulas and whatnot.

If you met any of the characters on the street, who would you share a pint with and who would make you turn and walk away? And why?
I would love to have a pint with Nessie! She is so sassy and spunky and I would want to spend time with her and get to know her backstory. Now if I saw the Oiler, I would want to turn and walk away. He’s a bit too mysterious to want to spend time with.

Do you have a favorite moment in the play?
I love all of the play, but my most favorite scene is [the one] in which we first meet Nessie and she sings her “I can do anything” anthem. It’s a great number that reminds us that we can do anything we want if we put our minds to it and we shouldn’t let anyone else tell us otherwise.

What was your first job in theater?
My first job in theater was Assistant Stage Managing here at the Chance for Jerry Springer: the Opera. It was a very fun and bold intro into theater. I’ve been working here ever since!
