The Pulitzer Prize Finalist Yellowman makes its Orange County premiere this Fall at Chance Theater. A celebration of language and the human spirit, Yellowman is an exquisite and provocative exploration of the challenges of overcoming racism, class, biases, and prejudices inherited both from community and family. Alma, a dark-skinned African-American woman, and her childhood friend Eugene, a light-skinned African-American man, have been life-long friends — yet when their friendship turns to love, will they find that some obstacles are just insurmountable?

Please note: This show contains adult language and subject material.

OCTG RECOMMENDED

“With the challenging intensity found in “Yellowman,” [the Chance] straightforwardly reminds us of the gap in our lives without live performance and reasserts the case for how necessary in-person theater can be.” OC Register

Julanne Chidi Hill’s transformation from a poor Russellville girl to a more suave, sturdy New York sophisticate is heartening, and Dante Alexander’s dramatic (and usually confrontational) conversations with his father and grandfather are striking in their dramatic simplicity and effectiveness.Show Report

“These are two magnetic stage personalities who manage to provide matching—sterling–and thoroughly believable portrayals wherein not a syllable rings false.”Bucking Trends
