On the Cripe Stage…
Jane Austen’s enduring love story is brought to life as a romantic-comedy musical. The story revolves around Emma, a well-meaning, but disaster-prone matchmaker, who ignores her own romantic feelings while setting out to find a suitor for her friend Harriet. Her efforts go awry, of course, leading to comic complications. We invite you to fall in love again with one of Jane Austen’s most adored characters, featuring an intelligent and buoyant score from Tony-nominated composer Paul Gordon (Jane Eyre).
Recommendation: Wonderful for the entire family, ages 4 and up.

It was an enjoyable experience. We enjoyed the smallness of the theater!
Excellent production, as always
I am a theater professional, actor/director, and this production was absolutely world-class
It was a delight to enjoy such a talented cast and professional production in such an unexpected place!
The entire cast was remarkable . . . not a musical theatre attendee on a regular basis, however really enjoyed this one. Great voices, comedic timing was excellent.
Delightful performance, great adaptation of the book, well worth coming down from the San Fernando Valley
best performance we ever saw at the Chance
Loved this version of Emma
I loved the intimacy of the stage and the live music. The performers were excellent.
We did not have much expectation at first, but we were blown away by the performance within minutes it started. The stage set was nicely done, the actors and actresses’ performance were wonderful. We also really enjoyed the songs. The play was both touching and hilarious. I can’t stop smiling when Harriet kept singing “Mr Robert Martin…” with that glowing expression of affections. I would sum it up with just two words — super awesome!
I saw a wonderful performance! This was our first time at the Chance Theater, but we’ll be back!
Our first time attending a performance at Chance and was greatly pleased with the venue, performances and exceeded our expectations.
I loved the performance–saw it more than once and enjoyed it every time.
We love this production!
The performance exceeded my expectations. The quality of the acting was phenomenal. The simplicity of the set was genius, and the audience reaction to the play was outstanding.
Every one of the artists was amazing and delivered an incredible performance.
I am SO impressed with this performance. It was so much better than expected and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The comedic timing, the expressions of the actors, the voices spectacular and the sound quality was really good. I will definitely look into this theater for future performances. I realize I had a smile on my face the entire time. The facial expressions of the “farmer” were hysterical. Loved the lyrics and the idea of puppetry. I was also very impressed with the theater itself. Intimate and not a bad seat in the house.
All actors were very expressive & had great voices. They pulled us into the story!
We really enjoy the Holiday Literature series
I enjoyed the performance immensely and am more open to musicals as a result
This wonderful production started with the director and continued from there – the acting, singing and music were all superb. The play was engaging and enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours.
We loved everything about this production; story, music, character portrayals, direction, lighting, everything was wonderful!
“I’d been wanting to see this show for years, and I’m so glad your production gave me a chance to.
Also the actors playing Harriet Smith and Robert Marten were simply adorable, bubbly, & delightful they were hands down my favorite part of the show! “
I enjoyed myself, this was the best play I’ve seen all year.
I enjoyed the performance of the actors greatly.
The actress playing Emma was fantastic!
A very fine production, well acted, sung and staged.
Mandy Foster playing Emma was great. Her expressions for the mischief she was causing were adorable. She is beautiful and a wonderful singer and perfect for the part.
This production was fun and very enjoyable, I especially loved Emma Woodhouse’s performance and the asides which give you insight into her machinations.
It was a great performance
Always great performances at The Chance. Keep it up.
My first time seeing Emma and I loved it!
Excellent production. Fantastic, talented cast! It was my first time, I plan to come back.
I was wondering how the music would be incorporated into the story. I felt the lyrics of the songs told Austin’s story beautifully even better than the original spoken words. The actors articulated the lyrics so that no story line or feeling was lost.
Excellent singers, actors portray Jane Austen’s “Emma”. Costumes were gorgeous, and it was a delight to see this show. Such engaging actors who capture Jane Austen’s brilliance with this play.
