All Hail St. Joan of the Stockyards is a re-interpretation of the classic Bertolt Brecht play, St. Joan of the Stockyards (1931), adapted by director, Aidan Lindsay. The dramedy charts a grand battle against corporate greed through the eyes of a modern-day Joan of Arc, Joan Dark (Sophia Zavala). Against the advice of her closest allies, she picks a fight against the brutal “Meat Kings” of the Chicago Stockyards, namely the eccentric Pierpont Mauler (Ben Primas). The reimagined play combines classic elements of Brechtian Theatre with constructivist projection and absurdist influences. It’s a fresh take on an often-forgotten Brecht piece, picking a bold stance against wealth inequality and the archetypes who perpetuate it.
